I do. Really. Most times, I just stop and watch and listen when a train goes by. I get to ride them so seldom that when I do, the ride is the high point, not the destination. I wish I could go coast-to-coast in a train. I guess you actually can but at my stage in life, I’d want a sleeper and Wow, is Amtrak proud of their sleepers. Anyway…yesterday I had a few spare minutes very late in the afternoon so I went down to the local train stop and took some snaps. Tried many things, successful at few. I did lay down on the tracks (shades of Snidely Whiplash flashed in my head) and got a couple of good ones. As I felt the tracks vibrate (and heard the whistle), I got up to snap the VRE. Sometimes I wish I could commute on a train. But then, I get a grip and am happy with my fifteen minute drive.
So after the train passes, I am scrambling because I had tried some really weird settings for some technically flawed plan to capture motion—handheld. Sighhhhhh. So here I am, creaking bones standing up after the train roars by (yes, they do roar), and the conductor is doing his best to not look at the geek fiddling with his camera. I snap one, two, three, rooooar. It’s gone.
