At Last, The New Year and My Resolutions

Of course I would be naive to think that the simple turning of a calendar would change things so dramatically that life would refresh or reset or…well you get the picture. The first few days of the New Year…this 2014 thing…have been reasonably inconsequential. That by itself is consequential. So maybe this will be a different year. As far as New Year’s resolutions, I’ve resolved to do two things; (1) not complain, and (2) read a non-technical book. As to the first, that may be the more difficult of the two and so I am wearing a purple wristband to help me remember. I hope it works. As to the second, I just ordered “In the Night of Time,” by Antonia Munoz Molina. A novel of people in the Spanish civil war. I did not get the Spanish version but I’m guessing I will miss the cultural flavor. Wish me luck on both. But remember, “judging” is not complaining but rather informed observation (smile).I walked out this morning and snow blanketed everything. Quiet. Peaceful. Exotically other-worldly. My very own intellectual island.Sunrise Quiet
